Christ as the Gryphon by Holley Bakich
The gryphon represents the dual nature of Christ through its own duality. Christ is both God and man; the gryphon both eagle and lion. Both pairs hold dominion of the sky and Earth. The eagle represents the spiritual, heavenly aspects of Christ, while the lion shows his kingly strength and divinity. The gryphon often appeared as a gargoyle representing Christ. In my piece, he treads on the Basilisk, a symbol of Satan.
