Alejandra by Holley BakichClose-up of Alejandra Podesta
This piece was inspired by the 1993 Argentine/Italian movie, I Don’t Want to Talk About It, a quirky love story about a man who falls in love with a dwarf girl. Charlotte (the dwarf) is the pampered daughter of a proud woman who refuses to acknowledge her daughter’s condition. She ignores it so much that when she asks a wealthy businessman (played by Marcello Mastroianni) to buy a horse for her daughter’s birthday, she flies into a rage when he buys her a pony. He returns the pony and returns with a full-sized horse. Charlotte becomes an accomplished equestrienne and the object of the businessman’s affections. Eventually they marry. Charlotte, however, cannot deny what her mother has covered up for so many years, and she finally runs off with the circus.
